Thanks for the scans! We go from such a dry season of little or no Natalie Portman photos, to a massive flood. She did say on one of her talk show appearances. She has nothing to do, which explains why she's everywhere lately and has even appeared on obscure entertainment shows, she'd normally never go on. Her free time is our blessing. I can't wait till she's on the cover of Popular Mechanic full a grease and dressed as a sexy mechanic repairing a car,

Re: I' LL BE BUYING THAT! | ||

She's afraid of people seeing her tits and old men stalking her, but she'll pose legs spread on the cover of a men's magazine? I don't see much difference. I'm sure all the little girls who look up to her as queen amidala are going to love this set of pics. You can be smart, talented, and a leader, but you better look damn good while doing it!

THAT! | ||

Well, I couldn't see them here but then I looked and np.com had them. Thanks anyway ekyilia.
Hype. And here I thought by "legs spread" description and comparisons to seeing her tits I was going to at least see some shocking upper thigh (or perhaps a la 'Sharon Stone' peek These pics kind of remind me of the Rolling Stone pics. They make her look kind of hardened. Which, maybe she has gotten to be by age 23. I like the second and third pic. Reminds me of when I used to live in those seedy downtown furnished hotels and drink all day and night. The cover makes me think she might get up and dance an impromptu Flamenco -- she looks like a dancer. Sorry, but is this US or British Esquire? Cuz supposedly she will be in the UK version.... |

is nat watching topless males in that second pic..classy lady! These pics are very lovely and sexy in a subtle way but it seems very dark and dingy and dirty motel room style. her clothes are very old looking possible granny pattens NOT style but material. unlike her other sexy esquire shoot. its strange that she looked so very sexy in some girly mags but less so in this mens mag. mind you this autumn country tweed manor house fashion is in...hence the jumpers and wooly hat looks in some of the other mags.

Quote: Ah, the neo-"feminist" rally cry of grrrrrrrl power, thanks to Madonna and the Spice Girls. All it really is is a perversion of the sexual liberties advocated for in the 70's by the feminist movement so that the balance of power still remains tipped in favor of men. Women have access to certain types of power as doled out by men, but they must fit an almost impossible physical ideal so as to receive it. |

These are nothing compared to her last Esquire cover/feature, but thanks, ekyillia. I really like the dress she's wearing on the cover.
And yeah, I'm pretty sure this is the UK edition, Cal (just like last time). Can't stop the spirits when they need you

Hello!
And by the way, just because you're a guy and you like Natalie Portman instead of Britney Spears, that does not mean you're some new age boy who can go around telling women what constitutes feminism and what doesn't. |

She has succumbed to the male's cultural stereotype of a sexy woman...too bad.

Nope, that definitely doesn't either. And in any case, I don't really believe you. But if you must, go ahead and look some stuff up on the internet and post it here to "prove" that you were.
And can you understand anything past the glaringly obvious or am I going to have to write everything that I literally mean so that we can have a conversation? Grrrrrrrrrl power! |

Now I can see the pics just fine here. Thanks, ekyillia. Her pose in the cover pic reminds me a little of Rita Moreno from West Side Story. I'm a feminist myself. And a female. I'm bookish but I don't think sex is dirty (or at least it doesn't have to be. ) Yes, these sexy pics in a men's magazine (known for more revealing covers than this one) , do indeed reproduce and perpetuate the typical hetero male fantasy image of the sexy female. Male gaze and all that. Yep, the so-called new sexual liberation is a perversion of the sexual revolution and women's liberation movement, and it also benefits men's sexual fantasies. Natalie is a willing participant. I don't think the overall sexual revolution of the 70's was as equal and non-exploitative as it is now fondly remembered to be. I think that if we were to really look back (like do an cultural anthropological study ) we'd find out that over history Western sexual ideology has always served the dominant heteromale sexual fantasies, beliefs, and needs over the females (and of course all other folks like gay men, lesbians, transgendered, bisexual, multisexual, parasexual .... ) Because it is about power, and yes, the power dynamics are unequal. Men have the power so we all play be their rules. A big problem now is how advertising like Mtv and music videos sell this adult sexy image to young girls, some of whom start serving much older male's sexual needs at age thirteen. They sell them on the notion that they will be empowered by doing a lap dance for a stranger. lol That's great for men I guess, but really not so good for girls and women. I also think it is okay for women to feel sexy about themselves and pose for male fantasy pictures, if they choose to. It doesn't turn me on, but I know that a lot of men really appreciate it. And it probably can be liberating and empowering on a personal level to pose for sexy pics or dance topless for Mike Nichols. Although Natalie seems too paranoid in advance already to really enjoy the rest of her life if she does nudity and skanky pics at a young age. And as sexually liberating and empowering as it might be on a personal level for actresses or models, popstars, to strut their stuff on magazine covers, I do not think it is empowering or all that liberating for women as a whole. All that being said..... these poses of Natalie in Esquire don't seem all that trashy or revealing, compared to what she has worn to public events and even some past magazine shoots. So what about the article? I'm sure Natalie will have some choice quotes we can all quibble about. I bet she says something naughty again. She's a wild one. |

Re: femmie | ||

shit, yeah! now we're talkin'!!
esquire is a fantastic magazine...the best she's been in yet. while yes, it still "gives" men what they "want", it's a much classier publication than most other magazines that "give" men what they "want". it's literate, it's witty, and most importantly, it respects women in an obvious, unabashed way that you don't see in maxim or fhm or any of the rest. when i look at a photo spread of a beautiful woman in esquire, i always get the impression that they're telling me, "can you friggin' believe how amazing this woman is?!? she has total power over us, and let's be thankful for that!" which is a far cry from, "wow, look at her shiny, oiled-up boobies." yay for esquire, and yay for nat! ~fygmynt "type slowly." ~ stephen malkmus
