No, I don't speak any French. I know a few words, and maybe can understand a random sentence in a movie or song, but nothing serious at all. But it's one of my goals to become fluent. (By the way, your English is great.)

The exchange from NY and Paris sounds great. Or, we could act as tour guides for one another.

Like I said with Arnold, it's a childhood thing. His action movies generally were the best (the "Terminator" movies, "Predator," "Total Recall" and "Running Man"), but I guess I also remember him fondly for a really nice thing he did for my cousin years ago: When I was around 5 or 6, my cousin in New Jersey who is younger than me by a year, had Leukemia and the doctors were expecting him to die. So he was granted a wish by Make a Wish Foundation, and it was to meet Arnold Schwarzenegger. So Arnold flew out to New Jersey to spend the whole day with him, and I always thought that was really neat.

About Alain Berliner, his other movie with Demi Moore, "Passion of Mind," it didn't go directly to video, but it did not play very long. I wasn't particularly impressed with it, but it did have elements that I did like. But yes, I really prefer "Ma vie en rose."

Anything of Lynch's I like! "Lost Highway" was the first I saw back in 1997 (March 14th, to be exact) and nothing I have ever seen has surpassed it. Even "Dune" has some enviable qualities (albeit, not many), but enough to make it watchable. I am really looking forward to "Mullholand Drive," and since Lynch won the Director's Prize at Cannes, hopefully it will get a distributor soon!

I like Woody Allen, but I like his older stuff a lot more. His current stuff, over the past decade, has been kind of watered down to me. I thought "Small Time Crooks" was the best he has done since "Mighty Aphrodite." Many of the others that you list, I like also. However, I seem to be on the outside when it comes to the Coen Brothers. I've liked some of their movies, but never a strong like. Their appeal is never one that has spread to me, but I guess I understand it in the same fashion as Lynch appeals to me, and not others. Cronenberg (especially "eXistenZ"), Gilliam and Jarmusch I also really like. I stil haven't seen "Black Cat, White Cat." I will have to rent that soon. I haven't seen any of Luhrmann's, but I will see "Moulin Rouge" on Thursday. I would see it tonight, but there is something else that I can't remember. All I know is he is trying to take credit for using current and old music as dialogue for the script, and "On connat la chanson" did it first, and that was a hommage to "Pennies from Heaven." I like Spike Jonze and Vincent Gallo a lot too, and I cannot wait to see "Human Behavior," which is Michal Gondry's first feature-length film!

I like the two films of Cdric Klapisch, also. I saw "When the Cat's Away" a long time ago, and have it on video. But I finally got to rent "Un air de famille" over the weekend. I liked it very much as well. Jaoui and Bacri are excellent writers. I just scanned the pictures of me and Agns, so hopefully I will post them later. (How do you integrate them like Rick did into the body of the message?) When did you work at the Paris Film Fest? Were Jaoui and Bacri ever married? Because when I interviewed her, I said "her husband," and she told me there were not married, but that they live together, and it's just like being married. And then I asked her why they don't do love stories, and she said because they feel uncomfortable showing it in a movie for everyone to see. I hope they are still together. In March, during the interview, she didn't say anything that would make me think they broke up. She did say they are working on another film, and that I could visit the set when/if I come to Paris.

I will find my copy of "Elle" magazine, and type up what it said about me. It's nothing big, but I get indirectly mentioned, and I think that's cool! Did you ever see "Kitchen et dependences?" That one isn't available on video in the US.

I don't know Melody Nelson. Is she current? If you recommend her, I will search for something of hers.

About Natalie: I first saw Natalie in "The Professional" when it came to video. I remember, I didn't pick it, and I didn't want to watch it either, because the box looked dull (haha!). But I was about 12 or 13 then --same age as Natalie, only a couple months apart-- and I had that instant teen infatuation with her from that moment, along with Christina Ricci, and Sarah Polley (from the TV show "Avalonia") and Eliza Dushku, too (from "That Night"). But from that time, I missed "Beautiful Girls" and "Everyone Says I Love You" and next saw her in "Mars Attacks!" on December 28, 1996. If she ever slipped from my mind before then, even though her role in "Mars..." wasn't very memorable, I never forgot about her from that time on. All of the recent stuff, I saw around their regular releases, courtesy of press screenings.
