Twig's favorite self-indulgent thread is BACK! I figured I needed to get this thing going since the exhibition season begins this coming weekend. The big story as camps begin is all the holdouts. Some have signed and/or reported(like Javon Walker and T.O.) while others have not(like Brian Westbrook, Hines Ward, and Viking 1st rounder Erasmus James---GET HIM INKED!!). I'll be starting up a couple of pick 'em fantasy leagues soon and inviting all comers to join. The actual fantasy football league has been filled up for a while though. "I would like to extend to you an invitation to the pants party"

Damn! I'll play in the pick 'em one though. I picked 'em for my g/f since her office does that, and we got 65%, so I'm right a little over half the time ;p It'll be interesting to see how the Vikes do in the post-Moss era. I will miss him, though, as watching him every Sunday was a lot of fun and a decent replacement to watching Barry Sanders in the good ole days. I hope our defense lives up to the hype that they've been getting. Here's my shortlist of Vikes players that'll need to step up their game next season: Udeze, Henderson, Robinson, Thomas, and Burleson. If we're to succeed this upcoming season, each of those guys will have to really step up their game a notch (though that's hard to imagine with Burleson, I think this year is his chance to really establish himself as a legit no.1 receiver). Udeze, though good at times, has to become more consistent. Henderson has to show why he was a Butkus award winner, and I haven't seen it yet. Robinson sometimes disappears in games...maybe has a tougher time getting open than he used to. Thomas just needs a little more consistent play, but I think he has star potential. Green Bay is in disarray...it'll be fun to see the Vikes kick their butt twice this year "He wasn't crying! He was laughing....MANIACALLY!!" --Dave Nelson

The Vikes are very good, Detroit will be very formidable if Harrington steps it up with all those offensive weapons, and the Bears have a chance to be a sneaky playoff contender if Grossman stays healthy. The Packers could very well finish last. I think Burleson's gonna be a superstar by year's end. I hope Udeze steps it up, but it seems like these highly drafted D-lineman never fully pan out(Alexander, Hovan, Clemons). I'll let you know if we have a chance at increasing the number of fantasy league teams. "I would like to extend to you an invitation to the pants party"

Twig: are the Denver Broncos not a formidable team anymore? Seems like they were a favourite with some of the jocks in my school (this was way back in the 90's) during the super bowl seasons. I say screw them, I didn't like either one. Terrell Davis was a hack, just like Emmitt Smith...great O-line that even someone named Olandis Gary (who we haven't heard from since) could rush for 1000 yards behind. All Denver running backs are more a product of their o-lines than they are of their own talent. I never liked the Green Bay teams, either. And, of course, a number of people at my high school jumped on the Vikings bandwagon in '98 when they went 15-1. Bah...I hate bandwagon jumpers. I hope the Pats don't win it this year...somehow, I doubt they will, considering all they've lost. I mean if losing their offensive/defensive coordinators wasn't enough, losing two star LB's should do the trick. I hope David Terrell doesn't do well in New England. The Broncos are not a Suer Bowl team anymore, but they're still a playoff-level team. I like em, cause I'm a fan of Jake Plummer. I didn't jump on the Denver bandwagon, but their win over the Packers in the super bowl WAS one of my all time favorite sports moments(not to mention the best super bowl I ever saw). I have no hope the Patriots fail to threepeat. I'm gonna just try to ignore them and as Mike Tice would say: enjoy the season. "I would like to extend to you an invitation to the pants party"

Hopefully they will win it this time. The Giants, Redskins, and Cowboys will be lucky if any of them makes it above .500. NFC North- The Vikings will win this division. Detroit wll get a wild card. Green Bay will not make the playoffs this year and Chicago won't do much better. NFC South- Carolina will win this division if they stay healthy, and are the only team that can stop the Eagles in the NFC. Atlanta will be a wild card and may make it to the championship game again. New Orleans will finish around .500 again, and Tampa Bay will stay in the cellar. NFC West- The Rams will win this divsion. Seattle will get close to the playoffs but miss. Arizona will win at least eight games. The 49ers will still suck. AFC East- New England will take the division title, but won't be as formidable. Buffalo will beat out the Jets for a wild card. Miami will still suck. AFC North- Pittsburgh is bound for the Superbowl. Baltimore and Cincinatti will both finish over .500 but just miss the playoffs. The Browns will suck. AFC South- Indy has this division and will go far in the playoffs. Jacksonville will vie for a wild card but miss. Houston will win eight games for the first time. The Titans are in rebuilding mode. AFC West- This is the toughest division to call. San Diego will win it and Kansas City will get a wild card. Oakland will play better but not make the playoffs. Denver will have a bad year. AFC: Steelers, Colts, Patriots, and Chargers. Wild Cards: Bills, Chiefs. NFC: Eagles, Vikings, Panthers, Rams. Wild Cards: Falcons, Lions. Superbowl: Eagles over Steelers.

Eagles WR Todd Pinkston is done for the year with a torn achilles. Speaking of the Eagles, WHERE IS ISITHESHOES? I'm calling you out! Its not an NFL thread without you! The preseason starts tomorrow...in about 4 hours actually. I wouldn't get up that early even if it was a Vikings game. Maybe I'll watch the replay later on. EDIT--- So, its nice to see that Terrell Owens has officially pissed away every ounce of respect he earned with his Super Bowl performance. He was KICKED OUT of Eagles training camp for a week! I've never heard of something like this before! Sayonara to Philly's Super Bowl hopes. Even if T.O. plays, he's clearly gonna be a disruption. Good news for the Vikings, Falcons, Panthers and Cowboys, cause all have greatly improved odds of reaching the super bowl now. -Ty Law signed with the Jets. If there's justice he'll pick off pretty boy 5 times in their first meeting this season, but the new me holds out no hope of NFL justice. Still, this greatly improves the Jets chances of making the playoffs once again.
