Is Natalie a Democrat, Republican, or Reform? |
Lead | |
|
In the spirit of the 2000 U.S. Presidential election season which began tonight, I thought we might discuss Natalie's possible political affiliation. She does care about politics to some degree: she is considering studying government at ******* University; she has expressed interest in Middle East politics; and the picture of her 18th birthday party posted on AQ showed a cake decorated with the words, "Let's Vote!" (she was wearing a Nestle Quick chocolate milk shirt-how cute!).
Is she a Democrat, Republican, Reform (possible WWF appearance?), or a wimpy Independent? My opinion is that she is most likely a Democrat:
1) she praised Rosie's anti-gun tirade against Tom Selik [sic] on the Rosie show during her appearance promoting Star Wars;
2) she is part of the New York Jewish community which generally favors the Democrats;
3) she is intelligent (a joke, A JOKE!)
4) she decided to attend ******* instead of Dartmouth;
5) she is a vegetarian (yes, yes, it doesn't mean that she's a liberal, but how many ultra-conservative Republicans do you know who forgo red meat?);
6) she has not appeared on the WWF or WCW (not Reform Party material);
7) she is not insane or paranoid (again, not Reform Party material).

Take it easy, and let me know what you think.- Bluejay
P.S. Vote for Vietnam Veteran Al Gore! |

I've read several places that Natalie is pretty right wing. Republican, conservative. Most of the Jewish community finds to be. I'd like to hear her speak out on this more. But as far as I've heard, Natalie is a Republican. I put that the on things I have in common with Natalie thread. *I'm Israeli/American as well* All the Israeli people I know here *the US* lean more towards right wing. This thread might turn up some arguments. But she said one of her heroes is Netanyahu, the former Israeli leader, and he was very hard-core right wing.. A great man. As was his brother. A lot of Republicans are for the banning of guns. And, I decided to attend Harvard over Dartmouth...and I applied there. :o)
Natalie did not, as far as anyone knows Whatever she is, I hope this doesn't start a board quarrel! :o) -Dee |

Vote for George BushI am republican, but I vote for who I think will do best in office and serve this country well. Al Gore cannot, in any mans emagination, be even a decent political leader. My personal and political ties are Republican...Natalie, in my best guess, would be a democrat, but that is IMHO.

Yes I know that over all the New York Jewish community is Democrat but I can't help but think she is a Republican. It seems to me by reading her interviews that she is very conservative. Besides I can't see Natalie supporting abortion or higher taxes as a Democrat would.I mean imagine our sweet little Natalie voting Democrat surely her parents raised her better than that. Gee I didn't know Natalie was behind Rosie's little anti-gun crusade(which is very uncool, people kill other people and they will continue to wether it be with a gun, a knife, a rock, a toothpick etc.) But my 2 cents says shes a Republican.
P.S. Vote for George W. Bush We've already seen what a Democrat can do!(hahaha!!!!!) |

Hey Delilah
I don't want to sound mean but the banning of guns is favored by the Democratic Party not the Republican Party. If you look most of the NRA's members are Republicans. Not to put you on the spot but are you for the banning of guns? I"m not as you all can probably tell. |

I'm glad to see so many Conservatives here. That's how I usually lean. But if you are liberal or a Democrat or whatever, then that's cool too. I would also be suprised if Natalie was Republican. I don't want to contradict Dee, but from my experience and knowledge, a super high majority of Jewish people are Democrats. Just look at Hollywood...90% Jewish, 90% liberal. I'm not puting down liberals or Jews...that's just what I've noticed. But if I'm wrong and Jewish people tend to be conservative, then great. |

Hello, I have never actually posted before but this subject, finally caused me to reply. I work for one the two major parties at a state headquarters so I have some knowledge on the system. Jewish people in New York City are historically liberal as they are in Los Angeles. But in places such as Miami, they are likely to be conservative. This has been consistent over the years. But in New York politcs there exists a subculture on Long Island that is Jewish and votes conservative. This has historically been a republican stronghold. So in splitting up New York, Republicans win the outstate (Ie Buffalo, Albany, etc.)and the Long Island and the democrats win the City usually all five boroughs. Her university has a great liberal tradition, but also contains many conservatives. These points along with the fact she is rich, from a rich suburb on the Island, and from various statements she has made, I feel she is Republican. Hey, we all can't be perfect!!!

Yes, no one is perfect. | ||

Mr. Jack77, welcome, and I must say I agree with you, no one is perfect. Even if Natalie were a Republican (gasp!), I would still be a fan. Your observations on the conservative bent of Long Island also rings true, if I recall the views of my Long Island friends in college. Nevertheless, I have a hard time seeing Natalie in support of overturning Roe v. Wade, fighting against gun control, or supporting tax cuts that help primarily the wealthy. As for her support of Netanyahu, I can see a Democrat-leaning member of the Jewish community supporting a harder stance on issues specifically concerning Israel, for very understandable reasons. Personally, I think Israel's greatest leaders in the recent past have been Yitzak Rabin and Shimon Peres. Only peace and compromise (from all parties) will conserve Israel's borders.- Bluejay

Re: Republican | ||

A little political joke for all you political pundits out there.
A Republican is only a reformed Democrat who has been robbed. I'm Canadian so I could care less who wins the presidential election. I am more of a libertarian and if I was an American I would vote for the Republicans if only they acted like real Republicans. It does not matter nowadays what party you are affiliated with, because all politcians are the same--they tell you what they want to hear for their own selfish reasons. It does not matter if the Democrats or Republicans win the election, your country is the richest in the world and will continue to do big business in the future. Elect who you want it makes no difference--a politician is still a politician. |

I agree with you on all your points Blue Jay. I find it difficult to belive she is a strong supporter of Netanyahu with his strong rhetoric of conservatism and lack of cooperation with the Arabs. I also agree that she would not be pro-life or anti gun control. I'm not sure on the issue of taxation. I think if she is a republican, she is a fiscal conservative and a social moderate. Very rare combination these days. I think I remeber her saying in one interview that she really admired Susan Sarandon's poltical activism. But interestly she did not seem to mention any of Sarandon's liberal issues.
Also, not to start a political debate on a fan web site but I just don't get the people that want less government. Personally, I like the FDA testing my drugs and food. I am in favor of quality roads and highways that governments build. I am in favor of a military that protects me when I sleep and work. I am in favor of government providing for the people who don't have much. I am for public education. I like that the FAA keeps the skys and airports safe for travellers. I am in favor of the FBI, CIA, NSA, DEA, INS, and State department advancing the U.S. position in the world and protecting me at home. I know some of these organizations have warts, but I prefer them to nothing at all like a libertarian. Maybe thats just me. |

Citizens MUST care. Natalie MUST care. | ||
|
It's nice to see someone who takes politics seriously, Mr. Jack77. I suspect Natalie also takes her responsibilities as a citizen quite seriously. Wherever she is on the political spectrum, I am certain that she is registered to vote.
Elections DO MATTER. The 2000 election MATTERS. The balance of the Supreme Court, Social Security, Medicare, education policy, the funding of the arts- the fate of all of these important issues will depend greatly on the next election in November. Politics can also be fun, especially up close. I have had the privilege of listening in person to (and, in a few cases, even shaking hands with) many prominent figures: President Clinton, First Lady Hillary Clinton, President George Bush, The Rev. Pat Robertson, Governor Jerry Brown, and Senator George McGovern (yes, he is still alive). I recall Natalie gushing over her meeting with Hillary Clinton on stage at a benefit. Politics is much more exciting when you get involved. So, just do it!- Bluejay |

Rosie shouldn't have put Natalie on the spot like that when she was taliking about guns. That was absolutely wrong of her. It's not like Natalie is going to start arguing with a talk show host while on the air.
I think Natalie doesn't have political afflition, but if she did, she would be a moderate Republican. Which, I guess, is way better than a Democrat. She seems to be fairly conservative. I myself am a right-wing, conservative, Republican die-hard. I will walk through the gates of Hell and back before I ever leave my political party.
