I believe the problems that members are having with their personal signatures is due to some recent changes that ezboard has made.
They have disallowed the use of html signatures by members who are not community supporters, so if anyone has a screwed up signature, you're going to have to use ezcodes instead of html.
Just go to your control center and make the changes in the "account preferences" section.

As Northernboy said, ezboard has made some changes. Now they have a patch to fix things. Here is the announcement:

"Important ezAnnouncement: The 7.0.92 Patch has been released to all servers. Included are a wealth of bug fixes and system-wide changes."

i agree with the rules.

but if i'm not mistaken, natalie's sexual life has been discussed on this board. also, please understand that some of the posters are from different countries, so they may have spelling or grammar mistakes,unintentionally.

i do believe that there is much more to this board than gossip.

You do that in your profil. Go into "My control center" (at least i think its called that) at the top of the page, and I think you will be able to figure the rest out there.

pnina2, I think everyone is allowed custom signatures, but only Ezboard supporters are allowed to use HTML in their sigs. All other members have to use ezcodes.

Yes, we do talk about Natalie and sexuality here -- we were revising the rule to be more clear. I haven't had time to post the latest version of the guidelines. I'll try to get to it today sometime. Basically, the rule or guideline about Natalie's sexual life pertains more to lewd or sexually graphic topics and language. An example of lewd and sexually graphic topics is given in that Poll that you answered.

We also understand about people not speaking english as a first language here. So we know ther ecan be communication problems or misundertandings and wrong spelling and grammar.

Through the time I've spent on this board, I've noticed that there are too many silly arguments, some impolite, among posters.
In those cases some posters asked you to consider eliminating certain other posters. My question is: Are you the only one who decides on that?

The reason I'm asking, is because I would very much like to know if this board is a sort of dictatorship... And also, I have no idea why certain people take advantage of precious time, page and money in order to insult one another (?)

One more thing - I enjoy the photos on this board, yet I'm a great believer in the power of word, weather it's regarding Natalie or not. With all do respect, there is much more to life than Natalie Portman.(Don't forget, I love her!)

YES!!! I am the dictator!!! (joking)

We are trying to have more of a democracy than a dictatorship, which is one reason that I made that poll. I wanted people's opinions, rather than pushing only my point of view. Earlier, we all voted and gave our opinions about the rules and guidelines, about what kind of an environment we want on this forum. We want to have an forum that welcomes diverse people, male and female, all ages, all life experiences.

There are two administrators here, myself and Twig. Currently we have most of the functional power on the board. Members gave their opinion on who the new admins were going to be. There are five moderators (Pequod, Red40, floothe, Edina Monsoon, and Jummy) that were chosen by the admins, but also with input from members.

I agree that there are too many silly fights that waste the pages and interrupt on-going conversations. That is what I dislike most about this forum. If it was my board and I was the dictator, I would ban some people from posting.

I think we talk about Natalie half the time and other subjects the rest of the time. Although we have a lot of Natalie pics and topics, we have threads about politics, current events, movies, philosophy, religion, etc. I think it is a very diverse board, but that an interest in Natalie Portman brought most people here. But I think most people stay because of the non-Natalie-related topics and discussions.

Well, pnina2,

I would say just to read some of the other pages on the board -- there are 20 pages full of topics. You can see the more popular topics will have multiple pages and many replies.

One can never be sure if a topic will "take off" with many postings -- people kind of choose what subject they want to talk about. So don't take it personally if nobody responds or if a topic falls flat.

I have to go away now, but I'll try to return later.

Hello members!

I have finally edited the Guidelines and Rules lists found on page one of this thread. I still need to edit the "AQMB Rules" link.

posting images

In addition, we are working on a guideline pertaining to posting images (pics) and images used in custom signatures. You would think it would be common sense, but apparently a guideline is needed.

The rationale behind this is that several members have complained when another member posts more than 5 images in a post -- it takes too long to load the page.

In addition, huge sig pics have also caused problems, due to the reason above. In addition, sig pics with women dressed in panties and bras are receiving complaints from many people. One of the reasons is that some people log onto this board in the workplace and soft porn/ skin pics are against the rules and can get people put on leave without pay for having them on their computer.

Here is a general proposal:

Unless posting on a "pictures thread," please distribute the number of pictures in your posts by using links in combination with pics. Obstrusive and overly large pictures in signatures are discouraged.

Red40 came up with this more detailed proposal:

Please refrain from the use of overly large or obtrusive signature images. Images exceeding a filesize of 30 kilobytes (30,000 bytes) and/or dimensions greater than 468 X 100 pixels may be considered obtrusive, and you may be asked by a moderator to remove or modify the image. Signatures containing 5 or more lines of text may also be considered obtrusive.

Hi, Ms.? Mr.? pnina2! Welcome!

First, the AQMB is probably the most democratic message board on the Internet. Please note:

1. Final authority for banning members rests with the general membership.

2. Moderators and Administrators may not delete posts or threads without an explanation.

3. The final authority for making new rules rests ONLY with the general membership.

Are there any other message boards where members hold such rights? I doubt it ....

No doubt ... there are many arguments here that should not take place.

However ...

... some have been worth the turmoil.

I would like to note that when I once called for an Administrator to step down (

), it ignited a rather testy argument on the board. Nevertheless, it was a dispute over an important issue:

Who gets to make new rules on this board?

The Administrator wanted the authority to make new rules unilaterally. Since the rules actually limit an Administrator's powers, allowing an Administrator to make new rules would give him (or her) ALL the power on the board ... a dictatorship.

That argument was a fight worth fighting: the authority to make new rules is now firmly in the hands of the general membership and NOT the Administrators.

Sometimes democracy can get messy ... and nasty. Even so, it is better to have a messy and occasionally nasty democracy than a strictly ordered dictatorship.

The Administrators and Moderators of this board SERVE the general membership .. they do NOT rule over us.

From time to time, it is worthwhile to remind them of that definitive principle.
